Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 15 days the closing date of this announcement Tuesday, July 10, 2018Basic Requirements: Degree in recreational therapy or in a creative arts therapy field (art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or psychodrama); or a major in an appropriate subject-matter field with therapeutic emphasis or concentration.Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: reviews and analyzes service activities and manages and directs all phases of Recreation Therapy, develops and implements quality improvement programs that includes risk management and infection control and requires management experience, skill in communication, leadership, interviewing, screening and placement of individuals and/or groups, insures that all employees, support staff, community personnel, volunteers, vocational rehabilitation employees, medical center staff and veterans are knowledgeable and comply with safety rules and that safety requirements are met, evaluates work performance of subordinates, oversees the supervision and evaluation of all therapies using acceptable professional standards of practice as well as accreditation criteria and maintains the tour of duty scheduling of RT staff, approves leave requests and assigns staff as needed to cover patient programming. OR, Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-11 level. Applicant must have 3 years of progressively higher level education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in recreational therapy or in a creative arts therapy field (art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or psychodrama); or a major in an appropriate subject-matter field with therapeutic emphasis or concentration. OR, Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-11 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-11. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Physical Requirements: The work environment involves exposure to regular and recurring moderate risks and discomfort. Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 level.
